Now Mayor Cherelle L. Parker will have to figure out how to indemnify Registered Community Organizations (RCOs), after Philadelphia voters approved a ballot question Tuesday requiring the city to do so. The Democratic primary for the West Philadelphia-based 10th District of the Pennsylvania House was too close to call late Tuesday night, with State Rep. Amen Brown holding a narrow lead over progressive challenger Cass Green. The president traveled to key battleground states touting federal spending that was generating jobs and winning adulation from the locals. But his job approval is still at about 40% and he is still trailing in battleground states. President Biden’s war on the American economy continued with more regulations this week designed to bring it to a halt. Conservative Jed Babbin graded it a “D-minus” and highlighted moves by the White House to hurt the economy.

CHARACTERS

Yates, a fiction writer with a dark past of his own, decides to put a different spin on the book and writes less about Frank and more about his marriage with Claire. Yates reads Frank a prologue that he does not understand at first, but agrees is a decent beginning. By the end of the season, Yates has the first chapter written and Frank, not liking the direction the book is taking, fires Yates. By the season finale, tensions between the Underwoods reach a point where Claire states her intent to leave Frank.

Doug, meanwhile, is in therapy following his confession to Zoe's murder, and Claire uses Assistant Director Green and his psychiatrist to monitor him. The Justice Department investigates the White House's ties to Feng and Tusk. Frank manipulates Walker into volunteering his travel records, which reveal his visits to a marriage counselor and raise questions about whether the donations were discussed. Wishing to avoid public disclosure of his personal issues, Walker has the White House Counsel coach the counselor, which the special prosecutor interprets as witness tampering.

No sooner had Jamie Dimon, CEO of JP Morgan Chase, declared a boom economy, a new report showed the GDP grinding down to an annualized 1.6% growth rate and inflation jumping back to a 3.7%. But his far-sighted regulatory regime is, at the same time, making it harder to produce electricity. This week a final regulation was issued that requires coal and natural gas electricity producers to effectively cut all emissions by 2032.

Yvonne Villarreal is a senior television writer for the Calendar section and co-host of “The Envelope” podcast. Five years before Netflix was tying HBO for most Emmy wins this year (23 each) and spending billions upon billions on original series, the fast-growing company was bracing for the launch of its first original series. According to the Maryland Film Office, the state provided millions in tax credits to subsidize the production costs. Throughout the season, a writer named Thomas Yates is hired by Frank to write a biography for the purpose of promoting America Works.

Biden said that sparked his entry into the 2020 presidential race. And there were more examples of the president’s stumbles and mumbles. First there were reports of aides being ordered to walk between the president and media cameras to hide Biden’s feeble gait. There were his weird and wrong claims that he used to drive 18-wheelers. And he’s back to reading aloud directions to “pause” on his teleprompter. Not only has inflation dug in and GDP petered out, but union workers are publicly ripping Biden’s leadership on live TV.

When Petrov has an American gay rights activist arrested in Russia, the Underwoods persuade him to secure a release. However, Petrov demands that the activist apologize on Russian television, leading the activist to kill himself while being visited by Claire. Later, after Russian troops are killed in the Jordan Valley, Petrov convinces Frank to remove Claire as Ambassador in exchange for a peaceful resolution. Claire resigns, giving the reason that she wants to be more active in Frank's campaign.

“Lawson-Fenning is tempting to use as a one-stop-shop for a luxe layered home and call it a day. They have an incredibly tasteful assortment of their own custom-designed furniture, textiles, lighting, refurbished vintage pieces, and small accessories spread out over a stunning two-level showroom. Lawson-Fenning is typically the first place I peruse when sourcing for that memorable moment in any install.” —Natalie Myers. The reworked season, which was trimmed down to eight episodes, will get its public unveiling on Friday, Nov. 2 — just in time to jolt the public enough to hit the polls for the midterm elections — and it shoulders a heavy load. Not only must “House of Cards” attempt to seamlessly move on without its dominant character, it must also bring a satisfactory close to the show that put Netflix on the original programming map.

Janine Skorsky and Doug continue to work to uncover the Underwoods, with Doug leaking contents of Frank's secret audio diary while Claire blames everything on Frank. Claire then uses the pretense of ICO obtaining a nuclear weapon to create a crisis, leading the Shepherds and Doug to accelerate their plans. After sending a copy of Frank's audio and letter opener to Claire, Doug visits her in the Oval Office where he admits that he killed Frank because he was undermining his own legacy. Doug threatens and wounds Claire with the letter opener, but when he draws back, she grabs it and stabs him in the stomach.

But the prospect of a man’s alleged misconduct thwarting the exploration of a woman, albeit a fictional one, stepping into her power felt troubling. The show had, in fact, reached a turning point at the end of Season 5, one that mirrored the larger theme surrounding the Time’s Up movement. Frank had resigned as president and his wife, Claire Underwood, played to icy distinction by Robin Wright, ascended from her perch as vice president to become the first female president. I was lucky to get into film at a time that was very interesting for drama.

It housed his office and two families on a small 60 x 70-foot lot. This unusual house was designed for him by Arthur L. Haley in the Arts and Crafts style; it retains its original interiors and furnishings. One of Frank Lloyd Wright's most important works, in a style he called "California Romantic," designed in 1917 and built between 1919 and 1923 for oil heiress Aline Barnsdall. The complex includes the main house, garage, and one other surviving structure. Enjoy a collection of fascinating, historic pieces of Los Angeles architecture that were built as private residences.

Zoe and two colleagues, Lucas Goodwin and Janine Skorsky, continue investigating Frank and ultimately locate Rachel. As a protective measure, Frank's aide Doug Stamper brings Rachel to a safe house while Frank lures Zoe to a Metro station and, unseen by witnesses or security cameras, pushes her in front of an oncoming train. Zoe's death compels Janine to abandon the investigation, but Lucas continues the search alone.

And producers were left scrambling to figure out if it was possible to reconfigure the series without its most formidable character. Spacey’s turn as ruthless and corrupt politician Francis “Frank” Underwood had long served as the show’s Machiavellian tour guide into the corrupt underbelly of government — often by speaking directly into the camera to viewers. Meanwhile, Hammerschmidt continues to investigate Zoe's death, and is given information by an unknown leaker within the White House. Major document dumps are made available to Hammerschmidt, which, among other charges, prompts an impeachment hearing against Frank.

The political thriller was two weeks into production in Baltimore, on its sixth and final season — planned, but not yet announced as such — when the cards collapsed. Frank and Claire allow the kidnappers to speak to the deposed leader of ICO, Yusuf al Ahmadi, after successfully obtaining the release of two of the hostages. Instead of defusing the situation as he agreed, al Ahmadi urges the kidnappers to kill the remaining hostage and broadcast the killing to the public. Meanwhile, Hammerschmidt publishes his story and threatens to end Frank's campaign weeks before the election. Claire urges Frank to use a heavier hand in the situation, and they decide to fight back by creating chaos. Frank addresses the public declaring that the nation is at total war, ordering the full force of the military be used to combat global terrorism regardless of the cost.

If you love arts and crafts architecture, this is the house for you. A well-preserved and fascinating example of Arts and Crafts architecture, designed by Greene and Greene, it was built in 1908 for David and Mary Gamble of the Procter & Gamble Company. Born during the Obama administration, the political series immediately drew recognition for mirroring the more corrupt side of government. But like most politically themed shows of this moment, the real-life twists and turns of the current administration often challenge any attempt to fictionalize modern American politics. Suddenly the theatrical vision of “House of Cards” looked startlingly like the news cycle. One hundred days after Claire takes office, she faces increased scrutiny, particularly in light of her husband's death following his resignation.
